Why we fundraise

Our mission is to cure cancer and change lives. Your fundraising dollars go towards supporting the brightest researchers and the vital work they do. Every dollar is getting us closer to a cure as well as giving hope to thousands of Australians currently living with cancer.

The SA Discovery Tour is a charity fundraising event. In addition to paying a registration fee*, everyone who signs up for the event must agree to raise a minimum of $3,000 for a rider and $1,000 for support crew.

Don’t worry, we have fundraising coaches and resources available to help you achieve your fundraising target in addition to Team Captains and mentors to guide you through. It is best to have a plan and start early.

Fundraising not only raises important funds towards your fundraising goal, you’re also helping to raise awareness about cancer prevention. Research shows that 1 in 3 Australian cases of cancer can be prevented, largely through making healthy lifestyle changes.

Fundraising tips

1. Be the first to donate
Show your commitment to your fundraising by making a donation to yourself… not only does this tell your supporters you’re committed to the challenge, you’ll set the benchmark for future donation amounts.

2. Remember to include a photo of yourself
People want to see who they’re donating to. A picture tells a thousand words so find a great shot that your supporters can connect to. Update your fundraising page.

3. Tell your story
Your supporters want to know WHY you’re joining VIC Discovery Tour. What’s your connection to the cause? What difference are you hoping to make? Your supporters are keen to know – don’t be afraid to share your WHY. You never know how your WHY may resonate with someone you know. Update your fundraising page.

4. Thank your donors
Every time you receive a donation, make a point of thanking your supporter. Let them know their donation has been noticed and appreciated. Using social media to publicly thank your donors by posting a picture of them with a thank you message – it’s a great way to remind others to donate.

5. Spread the word – share your fundraising page on all your social media channels
People who share their fundraising page raise significantly more than those who don’t. Use ALL your social media channels to tell people what you’re doing and why it means so much to you. Keep sharing your page to maximise as many of your followers to see your post. Ask again!
