How far is the ride?

The kilometres travelled will depend on your rider level/ability (determined by the Tour de Cure Training team), and the route topography. Once your level/ability is confirmed by the Tour de Cure training team, you will be riding a number of daily kilometres based on these peloton options:

  • Ride development (70 – 100km)

  • Ride intermediate (80 – 120km)

  • Ride plus (100 – 150km)

  • Challenge (120 -180km plus)

There will be an opportunity for you to nominate your rider level preference prior to the start of tour via a survey in early 2024. It is a necessity to attend your minimum of 5 TDC 40+km rides to enable the TDC ride team to recognise your preference and allocate your peloton based on skills and fitness.

Please note routes are always subject to changes based on conditions at the time of the event. Your safety comes first.

Riding levels for everyone

We ride in 4-5 pelotons of 20-26 riders, based on experience and ability. There will be Tour de Cure ride leaders in each peloton, who are in radio contact with support cars that travel at the front and back of each peloton. Each peloton car is a fully supported safety vehicle with driver, navigator plus nutrition, medical and mechanical assistance. You can nominate which level of peloton you wish to ride in on tour, and your request will be taken into consideration by our training team based on your skills and fitness.

The SA Discovery Tour is a great way to find out more about Tour de Cure and the work we do. It isn’t just about the 3 days on tour. You will be welcomed into the Tour de Cure family as soon as you sign up, joining a friendly team, whether you are in South Australia, or another state, you will be supported through the next few months of training, fundraising and fun in the process.

Joining a tour is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends (bring them along!), make new friends and be amongst the local research community. You will have the opportunity to ride side by side with the recipients of your fundraising, with researchers joining the tour to share their stories, research work and what motivates them in the cancer space.

Whilst on tour, you will travel through spectacular South Australian countryside visiting local Primary Schools along the way, spreading our cancer prevention message of ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy’ to the local school communities.

Dinners on tour will provide an opportunity to hear first-hand the impact of your fundraising dollars. Local grants are presented to cancer support and prevention organisations in the local towns we travel through.

You are well supported in the lead up to tour, getting you fit for tour as well as ensuring you reach your fundraising targets. You will be well supported and looked after on tour by experienced ride leaders and support crew. You will be connected to a dedicated group committed to changing the cancer story in Australia and raising funds to support South Australian cancer research.
